Dad’s got this. We’ll teach him how.
Growing up with a mom who was a hairstylist, you might think my hair always looked perfect.
Well… that depended on who was in charge.
If Dad was doing my hair, I was likely coming out looking like a bird’s nest—with teasing and Aqua Net holding the whole creation together! Bless his heart. He was trying, but he could have used a little help.
That memory still makes me laugh. And now, after 24 years as a hairstylist myself, I get to help other dads feel a little more prepared when it’s their turn with the hairbrush.
That’s part of what makes Pints & Ponytails so personal to me.
I want dads to feel comfortable asking, “How do I do this?” I want daughters to laugh with their dads, cheer them on, and enjoy having their full attention. And I want them both to leave with something they can use the next morning—even if that first ponytail is a little crooked.
As a mom and the founder of Bless Up & Bloom, I care deeply about helping people feel supported and confident. Sometimes that means providing hygiene essentials or access to a haircut. Sometimes it means putting a brush in a dad’s hand and saying, “Here, let me show you.”
We all have something we can teach, and we all have something we can learn. This is one way I can share what I love while bringing families and our community together.
Join us for Pints & Ponytails on Saturday, November 21, from 1–3 p.m. at the Hancock Hotel in Findlay. We’ll have hands-on hairstyling, games, prizes, hair care goody bags, and food for everyone included in the ticket.
Tickets are $40 for one dad and one daughter, with additional daughters welcome for $15 each. Space is limited to 25 dads.
Bring your daughter, your sense of humor, and your willingness to try. I’ll bring the hair tips.
We’ll leave the bird’s nests and Aqua Net in my childhood.
With love,
Brooke Simsa
